dc.description.abstractPrior to the adoption of the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, it was the prevailing opinion of lawyers and courts that state legislatures could giant divorces a vinculo when the constitution of their state did not forbid, at least for causes for which they could not be granted by the courts.
