Abstract
Over the last four decades, I have inched my way toward what might be called a grand narrative of the Constitution, with distinctive claims about the relationship between that Constitution and the American Revolution that launched it. In this brief tribute essay to my dear friend and America’s greatest living historian, Professor Gordon S. Wood, from whom I have learned so very much and whom I admire in every way, I shall compare and contrast my emerging grand narrative to the one that he has put forth over the last six decades in a truly towering body of work.
