Abstract
The larger law schools of the United States, with a single exception, and many of the smaller ones, are organized as departments of universities. The strength of a university if proportioned to the service which each department in it is rendering to the rest. This service is the greatest where the lines between them are not too sharply drawn. The early European university had no such lines at all.
