Abstract
To me, this line of cases calls into question two conventional wisdoms about Justice Blackmun that even his recent "revisionist" chroniclers have left unchallenged: first, that his voting patterns have steadily shifted over the years, while those of his colleagues have stayed largely the same; and second, that in his opinions, "Justice Blackmun makes little attempt to propound a consistent theory of how the Constitution should be interpreted."
