Abstract
Over three million American families bought homes in 1982, and an overwhelming majority paid for their homes by borrowing money. Home mortgage loans are the largest extensions of credit that most consumers ever obtain. For this reason, society has long been concerned that mortgagors be treated fairly, and has expressed this concern through laws governing residential mortgages.
